Strong results in Spa for Sowery

Title challenger Toby Sowery set the fastest time in the third and final test session for the BRDC British F3 Championship at Spa Francorchamps but it was his time from the morning's opening test that proved to be the quickest time of the day.

Qualifying P2, Toby Sowery: "It wasn't too bad a session, we went out a little earlier than the rest of them so it looked like we were in P1 for most of it and then Enaam put a pretty quick lap in and we got close to matching it but didn't quite manage it.

"I knew roughly what times he was doing but I didn't realise it was as close as it was and it should lead to a very close race. We've obviously got Ben behind us by a fraction as well so it is going to be close out there but it makes it exciting.

"Our race pace has been good and I think we can do consistently fast times and I'm not sure Enaam can be quite as consistent, so in the race runs it is looking good but I didn't quite get the maximum out of qualifying."

BRDC British F3 Championship, Spa Francorchamps, race two:

Sowery had a combative race, running third initially before being passed by Ahmed on lap three, but he reclaimed the podium position with a move on Das on lap six.

Toby Sowery:
"The first lap was entertaining, fighting with a lot of reverse grid drivers and managed to get a few places. I got into a bit of a rhythm, saw Enaam was closing and he overtook me and drove into the distance. I managed to gt Das three quarters of the way through the race and other than that it was a clear track.

"Race three is our last opportunity to achive what we had hoped we could heading into the weekend. The first lap is always challenging, especially around here. We're not on pole, which could be a good thing as Enaam found out in race one and we'll see how it goes."orchamps, race two result:

BRDC British F3 Championship, Spa Francorchamps, race three:

Enaam Ahmed, Toby Sowery and Ben Hingeley were the top three drivers in the third and final BRDC British F3 race of the weekend at Spa Francorchamps. Here's what the top-three had to say at the end of the race.

P2, Toby Sowery: "It was an OK race, it's been the summary of the weekend really. We can race really well, get into good positions but we just don't have the pace to keep it. When you're in the lead, you're so vulnerable to the car behind when you're on the Kemmel straight. We were struggling with the car in right handers specifically, which obviously doesn't help but that's not an excuse.

"I thought I might be able to keep Enaam behind me but I made a small mistake at Stavelot and he managed to get close enough and drag past. I don't think if there was a straight he would have got past me, but it's such a long straight for us that any opportunity you get, you pretty much take."
